An extraordinary and beguiling piece, difficult to be precise but after much thought we consider this fabulous hand carved, solid wood heraldic crown to be circa late 18th to early 20thC. Hand carved from a solid hard wood and forming 3 parts that include the replicated velvet cushion stand with gilded tasseled feet, the main life size crown with monarch red paint to the main body and highlighted gilding to the detailing which welcomes inspection to appreciate the craftsmanship, complimented with a gilded tassel finial. This is not a prop, it is life size and substantial, weighing apx 12-15kg, not weighed, the dimensions. Width and depth 32cm. Due to the intricate detail and studied craftsmanship, this may have been a celebration of a coronation or part of an architectural structure, the base underneath reveals some considerable age and perhaps the paint and gilding applied later in the 19thC.
