RARE CHINESE ANTIQUE SOLID SILVER BASKET. This is a late 19th-century (c1890) Chinese Export solid silver basket with a swing handle, raised on a collet foot. Exquisitely decorated with hand chased and repousse pierced decorations of bamboo foliage, interspersed with flowers and birds. Four bat motifs divide the ornamentations into four themes: a chrysanthemum; a sparrow; a crane with irises and cherry blossom. Bats symbolise happiness and joy. The decorations are crisp and highly detailed. It is fully marked, bearing silversmith WA, plus a signed Chinese chop mark by the artisan. The silver tested and shows 900+ silver grade. The basket is free from personal inscriptions or monograms. A beautiful genuine Chinese (circa 125 year old) antique silver basket. DIMENSION: 20.4cm x 16cm (8″ x 6 3/8″). Height: 3.5cm (1 1/2).
